Account Deletion
Last updated: September 2026
Here's exactly what happens if you delete your UniBin account.
How to Delete Your Account
Go to Settings → Delete Account. For security, you'll need to verify it's really you via a one-time code sent to your email before the deletion request goes through.
The 7-Day Grace Period
Once you confirm, your account enters a 7-day grace period. During this time:
- Your account is marked for deletion but nothing is removed yet
- If you log back in at any point during these 7 days, the deletion is automatically canceled and your account is restored exactly as it was — no action needed on your part beyond logging in.
This grace period exists so an accidental or impulsive deletion request doesn't cost you everything permanently.
What Happens After 7 Days
If you don't log back in within the grace period, your account and content are permanently deleted, including:
- Your profile (username, bio, avatar, banner, major, study year)
- Every file you uploaded, and the underlying file itself
- Your posts, comments, votes, and bookmarks
- Reports you've filed and notifications tied to your account
- Any study packs you created
- Your university email record on file
This is permanent. There's no way to recover an account or its content once the 7-day window has passed and the deletion has run.
What's Kept, and Why
A small amount of data is retained after deletion, but in a form that no longer identifies you:
- Moderation and audit records — if a moderator ever took an action involving your account (e.g., resolving a report), that record is kept for our own trust-and-safety history, but your personal identity is removed from it.
- Flagged content logs — if a message or search you made was flagged by our automated safety systems, the flagged content itself may be retained for review purposes, but it's no longer linked to you.
Our email delivery logs (used to confirm emails reach you) are cleaned up as part of deletion too — the email address(es) tied to your account are removed from those logs when your account is permanently deleted.
